Grow Your Own…

Posted on

Mic has been wanting to start a vegetable garden for *ages*.  He fell in love with the idea while walking around his Granny’s beautiful garden, picking and sampling the fresh beans and cherry tomatoes.  Unfortunately the house we lived in had no space for growing anything – and the limited space got very little sunlight thanks to the huge surrounding trees.  A month ago we moved into our new home and one of the first things I liked about the house was the space to finally start our own veggie garden.

Less than two weeks after moving in we began digging up the back garden.

Bought a selection of seeds.

Made signs.

And got planting!

Mic checks on the garden at least twice a day and gets so excited every time he spots a new shoot.  Luckily we have had quite a bit of rain, so we’ve only had to water the garden a couple of times.  The backyard gets loads of sun and the soil seems to be perfect.  It has been two weeks since we planted and everything is growing so well.  Such a rewarding project!

We have made a HUGE vegetable garden and planted a LOT of seeds – being first timers I wanted to make sure we planted enough so at least *something* worked – but by the looks of it we are going to be able to feed about 4 families off our produce.  Yay!

Mic is documenting everything in his journal and we are having such fun with this project.  Here’s to a succesful start on “Growing our own”

Much love,
